The Spring show is hosted at the Hayton Baker Hall and the Summer Show at the Yew Tree Inn, in Chalvington.
Both Shows are traditional and have changed little over the years. The Summer Show has been running for over 75 years. They are two of the many events held in Ripe and Chalvington which are inclusive for the community and where the taking part is very much the ethos.
The more entries, and therefore exhibits, we have the better the show.
Spring Show: March
The focus of the Spring Show are daffodils and bulbs in all their splendour, there are also classes for children, cookery exhibits and other flowers.
Summer Show: July
The Summer Show is a much larger affair with a wider range of classes to enter and competitions to take part in. There are usually a range of side show and opportunities to spend small amounts of money.
The shows are fuelled by tea and cake, and the summer show by some alcohol! Its famous for its raffle and produce auction, which creates a good deal of fun on the day.
Both shows are supported by local businesses who sponsor the classes, to whom we are very grateful. Any monies made from the raffle, tombola, cake stall, and other stalls are ploughed back into village events or enterprises such as the village shop, the local churches etc.
In order to have sufficient volunteers available on the day to run all the side shows it has been agreed by the Committee responsible for the Flower Shows that whilst they will continue to organise and run the flower shows it will come under the umbrella of Ripe and Chalvington Community Association for the purposes of continued community support.
Keep yourselves busy in the garden and baking in the kitchen and join us next spring and summer to show the results!!
